Have you ever suddenly found out that visitors will be arriving at your door in just a few minutes and your house is a wreck? Many people have experienced this; a lazy and relaxing day when you take a break from cleaning is usually when this happens, so you have to jump up and clean up as fast as you can. What can you do to get that house cleaned quickly and still have time to look composed before your guests arrive?
Grab the Trash Can!
Grab your garbage can and carry it with you as you speed around the room. This way, you can toss any trash you see right away. Gather any sort of papers or other trash quickly and toss it into the trash can.
Pick Up While You Spiff Up!
Quickly wet a dusting cloth with water and go around the rooms straightening anything that is out of place. This might include straightening magazines, fluffing throw pillows, replacing items that belong on an end table, tossing toys into the toy box, etc. While you are doing this, use your other hand to wipe down the tables, television, shelves or anything else that could use a quick dust. Place any dirty dishes into the dishwasher so they will be out of sight and wipe down your kitchen table. Make sure the chairs are all in place.
Deal With the Floors!
Because you dusted, you will most likely have a floor issue to deal with! You may not have time to fully sweep and mop, so here are a few quick tips to help with that. First, sweep quickly so that no dirt or large items are on the floor. Then, dampen your mop with a bit of water and cleaning solution. Spot mop the floor so that there are no dirty spots and the floor looks fairly clean. You can give it a thorough mopping later.
Bathrooms!
You certainly don’t want guests to visit your bathrooms and see a disaster zone. Quickly throw any clothing that is on the floor into the hamper. Close the shower curtain so that no one can see a dirty tub, toss all the contents of the counters and sink area into a basket and throw that under the sink. You can replace the items later or leave them in the basket for quick access to needed items. They will be out of the way this way. Quickly swish the toilet brush around the toilet and wipe down the external part of the toilet. Quickly sweep and spot mop the bathroom floors as well.
Extra tips to make it look great:
There are a few other tips you can use to make it look great and homey. Light a few scented candles in the living room or kitchen area. Give the bathroom a quick spritz of air freshener and throw out a couple of guest hand soaps if you have them. If it’s evening time, a quick trick for the living room area is to turn off bright lights and light enough lamps to create a nice environment. These are just a few ideas you can use to clean up quickly and make your home look nice and inviting!
